Concrete Overlays are a perfect solution to inexpensively repair a damaged concrete surface or to upgrade traditional grey to stamped and colored concrete. The overlay will minimize the appearance or camouflage cracks, buText Box: Concrete Resources Inc
t it will not eliminate them. If the underlying concrete is cracked they may show through.

An overlay is not a good idea to apply over spalling or pitting concrete because it takes the form of the concrete surface below it. Some steps can be taken to repair concrete before an overlay is applied but it cannot be guaranteed.

When an overlay is applied to the base concrete, the overall PSI (Pressure per square inch) of the concrete will be increased strengthening the current concrete. It is highly unlikely that the overlay can be delaminated from the surface because it becomes part of the concrete.

An overlay can be installed on many existing surfaces including pool decks, patios. basements, driveways, foyers, hotel lobbies, shopping centers, and retail stores.

Basic steps to an overlay installation-

  1. Surface preparation- The existing surface must be cleared of all materials (carpet, tile, dust, dirt, etc.) Once the surface is clear a "bond breaker" is applied to the concrete to clean oils or other materials that would inhibit the adhesion of the overlay. After the "bond breaker" is applied, another chemical is applied to the concrete to "etch" the surface to allow the overlay to adhere.
  2. Installation- The overlay materials are mixed together and the material is poured out in an area approximately 10ft by 10 ft at a time. Then the material is gauge raked to a maximum thickness of 3/8" and finally the chosen stamp is applied to the overlay material.
  3. Color Release- A color release is added to give the concrete the highlights and lowlights to the stamp pattern. This is what gives the pattern the different shades of color.
  4. Sealer- A sealer is applied to an overlay to protect the surface and give it a shine.
